I am sat in splendid isolation……..

I am sat in splendid isolation……..

………….surrounded by the stunning mountain views. This really is a breathtaking place to visit and stay. I can hear the remote sounds of girls sorting out bedrooms in the early stages of packing, others warming up after a session on the water and the ‘drama queens’ polishing up their performances for the Victorian Music Hall tonight. In many ways tapping out a message on an i-pad seems out of place- but very convenient nonetheless.
I have been recording the girls and will endeavour to upload- bear with please.

Spirits are up!

Spirits are up!

The weather has not managed to dampen the spirits of our Year 6 girls. I am pleased to say they are all well and enjoying the Patterdale experience. Gorge walking, sailing and climbing have taken their place alongside the girls being inspired by the beauty of Aira Force-which I am sure has been at its best with all the rainfall. The girls’ poetry writing and art work has been inspirational. Exploring the Victorian building has been met with equal excitement especially the tour of the underground cellar with all its secrets. You should also find on their return that they are more knowledgeable about trees. With much more still to look forward to I am sure the rest of their week will speed by. I know how much you are missing the girls…maybe you can send me your comments on what you miss the most?!!

I can if I really want to!!

I can if I really want to!!

Our ‘Assemblies’, this week have covered a variety of topics. 3 Sixth formers joined us for the Wednesday Achievement Assembly this week to talk to the girls about their interests and passions. Heather talked to the girls about her interest in music and how that had started in Beech House. She went on to play one of her A level pieces on the alto saxophone. A passion for sport and horses is soon to take the next Senior Girl to describe her life story, onto University and time in Holland. Whilst our very own Lizzie and Lucy were invited onto stage to dance with the last of the Senior girls who has pursued her love for and interest in dance since being 4 years old.

Such inspiration and motivation for our girls. They also recognised the ‘Habits of Mind’ that are so important to these life long journeys. Self belief and determination to succeed and having fun along the way!

Spring Fair success!

Spring Fair success!

Despite the cold and unpredictability of the weather the Hesketh House Spring Fair was a wonderful success. I think it is fair to say there was something for everyone and a true sense of the wonderful community that exists at Hesketh House. An occasion all the girls will remember as part of their journey through the Junior school. Thank to you all – from those involved with planning and preparing, to those of you supporting and spending, and then to those who wrapped things up and restored school to normal! It would be wonderful to hear your comments……..

Inspiration!

Inspiration!

The girls have been inspired in many ways over the last week. A visit from four Sixth form girls talking about their future aspirations in Law, Veterinary practice, Languages and Business studies opened our girls minds to all sorts of possibilities. A number of them already have thoughts on their career paths!

A musical journey with the Halle, A World Book day full of surprise and creativity, a visit from a group of Magistrates and the excitement of an archaeological dig ……INSPIRATION positivelyoozing from hesketh House!!

Post me your favourite part of last week.

Questions, questions…….and more questions

Questions, questions…….and more questions

What makes a good question? Perhaps ask your daughter this weekend that very thing and listen to her response. You may get an insight into some of the learning  the teachers have been facilitating . I have witnessed girls from different year groups exploring what it might have been like to be a child in the Stone Age, Tudor times and Victorian times all by asking ‘good questions’. The learning has been both tangible and exciting……

Open Afternoon is a perfect opportunity for you to share part of this learning journey. The girls will happily explain and describe different aspects of their daily life in school-enjoy! Equally I would invite you to look at the classroom displays and venture into other parts of school to see work from other classes.

Penguin mania

Penguin mania

The girls interests have been well and truly captivated by penguins! Our idea paint wall is FULL of penguin facts which are making interesting reading. The burning question that remains is; ‘Can penguins fly?’ Take a look on Youtube using the question as your search and then after rubbing your eyes- post me your thoughts.
